SUMMER SCHOOL OF MUSIC1st - 8th August 2009Giggleswick School, Settle, North YorkshireA veritable feast of music making for one whole week! The large team of dedicated and experienced tutors enable the school to offer a wide range of courses including Big Band, Brass Band, Chamber Music, Choir, Composition, Dance Band, Folk Music, three levels of Jazz, Harmony and Improvisation, Opera, Percussion, Solo Singing, String Orchestra, Symphonic Wind Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra, Theory, Wind Ensembles and World Music. There is also an emphasis on music that reflects the struggles of the world’s peoples for peace and harmony. Giggleswick School offers superb rehearsal and performance facilities in idyllic surroundings. Whilst basic instrumental tuition is not provided, we endeavour to provide for each student, whatever his or her level of skill, the opportunity to improve and develop through a variety of ensemble work. It is hoped that each student will take away renewed enthusiasm for his or her discipline together with inspirational experiences to remember all year. There are numerous opportunities to perform in formal and informal concerts, and collaboration across courses is actively encouraged. Students are also encouraged to get together with like-minded colleagues to form their own self-organised groups to play outside of the timetabled sessions. Scholarships and bursaries may be available for some students, one such being the Valentine Alcock Scholarship for youngsters whose skills would be enhanced by attending an intensive course or workshop. Students are always encouraged to seek support from their trade unions or employers to assist their attendance at the school. Click here to download |

"And this shall be for a bond between us: that we are of one blood you and I; that we have cried peace to all and claimed fellowship with every living thing; that we hate war and sloth and greed, and love fellowship, and that we shall go singing to the fashioning of a new world." William Morris. |
